Following are 7 of the most popular tourist spots in Sikkim:
Gangtok: Sikkim's capital city, Gangtok is a lovely mix of authentic Sikkimese culture and contemporary vibes. MG Marg, a walking mall, is the soul of the city with restaurants, shops, and cafes. Do not forget the Enchey Monastery and Rumtek Monastery for spiritual awareness, and Ganesh Tok and Hanuman Tok for scenic views of the Kanchenjunga mountain range.
Tsomgo Lake (Changu Lake): Approximately 38 km from Gangtok at an elevation of 12,400 feet, Tsomgo Lake is a glacial lake that is sacred to the locals. Its untouched blue waters reflect the top snow-capped mountains around, presenting a breathtaking view. During winter, the lake gets covered with ice, presenting an ethereal icy scene. Yak rides are a favorite pastime here.
Nathula Pass: This ancient mountain pass on the Indo-China border, situated at an altitude of 14,140 feet, forms an important part of the very ancient Silk Route. The pass provides a breathtaking panorama of the Himalayas and also the experience of standing on the border. Nathula Pass needs special permits to visit.
Yumthang Valley (Valley of Flowers): Situated in North Sikkim, this beautiful valley of an elevation of 11,800 feet is widely referred to as the "Valley of Flowers." During the spring season (March to May), it is a riot of colors of rhododendrons, primulas, and other alpine flowers. The roaring Lachung River and snow-covered mountains around make it even more beautiful.
Pelling: Pelling, located in West Sikkim, provides the most breathtaking sights of the Kanchenjunga mountain range, including its towering peaks. Some of the major attractions are the Pemayangtse Monastery, Rabdentse Ruins (the former capital of Sikkim), and the exciting Pelling Skywalk close to the Chenrezig statue.
Lachen & Lachung (North Sikkim): These two scenic mountain villages in North Sikkim are the entry points to some of the most beautiful and high-altitude places.
Lachen: Frequently the hub for a visit to Gurudongmar Lake, it provides an insight into indigenous Sikkimese village life and breathtaking views.
Lachung: The hub for a visit to Yumthang Valley and Zero Point. Both villages provide a peaceful retreat surrounded by snow-capped peaks, raging rivers, and verdant valleys.
Gurudongmar Lake: This is one of the world's highest lakes, standing at an incredible altitude of 17,800 feet in North Sikkim. The Buddhist, Hindu, and Sikh communities hold it to be sacred. The ethereal beauty of its blue waters set against snow-covered mountains is simply breathtaking. Permits are needed because it is near the border.
