Top 10 best places to visit in Egypt

Here are 10 of the top places to see in Egypt:

The Pyramids of Giza & Sphinx: No trip to Egypt would be complete without beholding these ancient marvels. The Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, protected by the mysterious Great Sphinx, are the symbol of ancient Egyptian skill and the world's sole surviving ancient wonder.

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM): Close to the Pyramids of Giza, the GEM is going to be among the biggest archaeological museums in the world. Upon full opening, it will contain more than 100,000 artifacts, including the entire set of King Tutankhamun's treasures, providing an unmatched tour through 5,000 years of Egyptian history.

Luxor (Ancient Thebes): Frequently referred to as the "world's greatest open-air museum," Luxor contains an astonishing density of ancient ruins.

Karnak Temple Complex: A vast complex of temples, chapels, and other structures, constructed over many centuries by different pharaohs. It's one of the world's largest ancient sacred areas.

Luxor Temple: Situated on the Nile's east bank, this exquisite temple was where most ancient Egyptian rulers were crowned. It's especially beautiful at night when illuminated.

Valley of the Kings: On the west bank of the Nile at Luxor, this ancient necropolis was the resting place for pharaohs and high-ranking nobles of the New Kingdom. Wander through elaborately adorned tombs, such as that of the boy-king Tutankhamun, packed with hieroglyphics and paintings of the afterlife journey.

Abu Simbel Temples: Two colossal rock-cut temples, constructed by Pharaoh Ramses II, in southern Egypt close to the Sudanese border, these are some of the greatest monuments. They were famously moved in the 1960s to avoid being covered by Lake Nasser.

Aswan: A scenic city along the Nile, famous for its stunning landscapes and key archaeological sites.

Philae Temple: This stunning temple was also moved to Agilkia Island to protect it from flooding and dedicated to the goddess Isis.

Aswan High Dam: A testament to engineering, this modern wonder changed Egypt's power and agriculture in a great way.

Saqqara Necropolis: South of Cairo lies the ancient cemetery Saqqara, with many pyramids on its grounds, such as the Step Pyramid of Djoser. With its six levels, built in the 27th century BC, this pyramid is regarded as the world's largest stone structure and a milestone in the burial tradition of ancient Egyptians.

Nile River Cruise: The classic Egyptian experience. Take a cruise along the Nile from Luxor to Aswan and you can observe numerous temples and ancient sites from up close right along the river, a serene and scenic method of experiencing the center of ancient Egypt.

Alexandria: Egypt's second-largest city, which was founded by Alexander the Great, has a storied past and a Mediterranean atmosphere. Sites of special interest are the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (a contemporary revival of the old Library of Alexandria), the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, and the Citadel of Qaitbay.

Kom Ombo Temple: An unusual "double temple" in honor of two gods: Sobek (the crocodile deity) and Horus (the falcon-headed god). Its symmetrical layout and elaborate carvings, such as images of ancient medical equipment, make it an interesting port of call on a Nile cruise.
